Students taking the SAT® Saturday, March 5, will be the first to take the redesigned college entrance exam. Free online practice for the new SAT is available thanks to a new college readiness partnership between the College Board and Khan Academy. The virtual SAT prep course provides students practice in the areas of math, reading, writing and language.
The school division’s 10th and 11th graders who took the PSAT in October received a personalized code on their score reports that, when entered in their College Board account, will automatically tailor Khan Academy SAT test practice levels to a student’s aptitude based on his/her PSAT score. For students who have not taken the PSAT, they may take a series of diagnostic quizzes so that the SAT practice site can determine appropriate practice levels.
All VBCPS 10th graders have received information in their English classes on how to enroll in the online SAT course, and it will be highlighted in 10th grade English classes annually. When students successfully complete the online course, it does meet the Virginia Department of Education’s requirement that all students graduating by 2018 must have earned credit for at least one virtual course.
For more information on this opportunity, 10th graders may contact their English teachers and all students may contact their school counselor or log in to CollegeBoard.org or KhanAcademy.org.
