The Tri-Campus Tailgate outside Newtown Elementary celebrated the partnership between Newtown, Bettie F. Williams and Diamond Springs elementary schools.
Newtown Elementary principal Mikelle Williams said the Sept. 12 free family event brought the schools together in unity.
“This is a community celebration,” he said.
A DJ played tunes and announced raffle winners, while families mingled and enjoyed a variety of fun learning stations. They also gathered information on school and community resources and enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers.
Matt Orebaugh, Bettie F. Williams principal, said there are exciting initiative and collaborative efforts taking place between the three schools.
Diamond Springs serves pre-kindergarten through first grade, while Newtown is second through third, and Bettie F. Williams is fourth and fifth.
Newtown Elementary general assistant Celeste Arrington attended with her children Esai, a Newtown third grader, and Eliyas, who attends fifth grade at Bettie F. Williams.
Arrington praised the Tailgate event.
“It gives the children the chance to connect their school life to their home life,” she said.
