Virginia Beach schools have partnered with the Lynnhaven River Now project to create quilt squares that will be sewn together with quilt squares from other schools to bring awareness to watershed. Students drew a picture of the watershed and how it influenced them directly and/or how they viewed it at this time.
This project is part of the Sustainable School program, and is meant to bring awareness to the current watershed, and how we can make a difference by caring about our natural environments in and around our schools and neighborhoods.
The quilt, after it is sewn together, and the stories that accompany each quilt piece will be traveling across the city to tell its story.
How fun would it be if the Middle School students sewed the squares together! My students just completed a 9 square pillows from the remnants of their pattern pajama pants and have experience in sewing squares together as do many other Middle School students. This could become a multi grade, multi school project if you would like! Please let me know what you think.
