What happens when childhood stress and social trauma become too much for families to cope with alone? There are resources available.
In a Parent Connection workshop Tuesday, May 12, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Landstown High School, a licensed clinical social worker and licensed professional counselor will shed light on what is becoming America’s hidden epidemic.
Parents will learn the basics of traumatic events, adverse life events and the effects of what are known as “Big T” and “Little T” traumatic events. Presenters will share how such events, if left unchecked, can pervade everyday lives and complicate healthy development, especially in children and adolescents. Parents will be taught warning signs to help tell the difference between normal teenage behavior and behavior that may need treatment. The presenters will also provide information on resources for mental health care should the need arise.
Families attending the workshop will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Virginia Beach Community Services Board and the many resources it provides to our community.
