Families can save money and get a jump-start on their back-to-school shopping with Virginia’s sales tax holiday Aug. 5-7.
The tax-free weekend allows consumers to purchase qualifying school supplies, clothing and footwear without paying sales tax. According to the Virginia Department of Taxation website, qualified school supplies are $20 or less per item, and qualifying clothing and footwear cost $100 or less per item. A detailed list of eligible items is available on the department’s website here.
Additionally, select hurricane and emergency preparedness items as well as Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products qualify for the sales tax exemption. More information about these qualifying items is available on the Virginia Department of Taxation website here.
The sales tax holiday includes qualifying items purchased online, by mail or over the phone beginning 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, and ending 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7.
In past years I have helped students with their Back To School supplies. This year I have two students who will attend Virginia Beach Schools who need help in getting their supplies but I cannot determine what supplies they will need. I searched the VB Schools web site but left discussed. Why is it a secret? Where can I obtain a copy of this secret list?
