Wendi Gajewski of Kingston Elementary is the VBCPS School Nurse of the Year for 2024-25.
Gajewski‘s love and dedication to her students, staff and school shines through, according to the nominations she received for the award.
In a world where school nurses are often the first responders, quiet listeners and health educators, Gajewski has gone above and beyond in every possible way. Whether it’s managing chronic health conditions, handling emergencies with grace or simply knowing when a child just needs someone to talk to, she leads with heart, shows up without fail and makes a lasting difference one child at a time.
She often lends a helping hand with various school activities and has been Tagged by the Superintendent on two separate occasions.
She started career with VBCPS as a substitute nurse in 2010. Joining Health Services fulltime in 2013, she accepted her current role at Kingston Elementary.
Gajewski has been a valuable member of the Virginia Beach School Nurses Association for 12 years — serving as the secretary on the board, assisting on the hospitality and scholarship committees, helping as a resource for new nurses, and more.
