Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) is partnering with Startup High to provide local sessions of the 2015 Summer Innovation Program. Families can learn more about the program for high school students by attending an informational workshop Wednesday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Landstown High School schola.
The Startup High program, funded in part by a Microsoft grant, is designed for high school students to interact with local entrepreneurs and develop their own entrepreneurial projects using computer science. Each weeklong session includes the following topics and activities: engage innovative leaders and entrepreneurs, coding 101, volunteer at local nonprofit organizations, rejection therapy, design and pitch personal project, and create and leverage LinkedIn profiles. Participants present their projects at a culminating graduation event.
“I first learned about Startup High in Durham, North Carolina and immediately started the process of bringing the program to my previous district. I’m excited it’s launching in Virginia Beach since I know it will take our students to a new level of entrepreneurial thinking and innovation. I look forward to sending my own children,” said VBCPS Superintendent Aaron Spence.
Startup High will host seven sessions of its 2015 Summer Innovation Program at Town Center, Virginia Beach on the following dates from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
- June 22-25, 2015
- June 29-July 2, 2015

- July 13-16, 2015
- July 20-23, 2015
- July 27-30, 2015
