Parent Connection, an outreach of Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) that links families to a variety of resources and programs, offers free workshops throughout the school year to VBCPS parents/guardians. More than 600 people attended the Sept. 19 Parent Connection workshop entitled “The College Planning Process: Important Steps and Effective Strategies.”
Families can mark their calendars for future sessions found on the newly-released 2017-2018 Parent Connection Workshop Series schedule.
October’s workshop will feature a free screening of the award-winning documentary “Screenagers,” which explores the consumption of electronic media and discusses how adults can empower children to best navigate the digital world and find balance. Academic planning, pathways and resources are the focus of the November workshop, and in January, applied psychologist Dr. Heather Tedesco will discuss how to recognize, cope with and alleviate anxiety and stress in children. The twice-exceptional learner and the use of visual prompts and schedules will be featured in February and March respectively.
Approximately two weeks before each workshop VBCPS parents/guardians receive an email invitation to register online on a first-come, first-served basis. Each workshop is held from 6:30-8 p.m. and titles, dates, descriptions and locations are detailed in the flyer below and posted on vbschools.com.
