Kempsville Elementary students get their hands dirty
Recently the Kempsville Elementary School (KES) SCA, staff members and volunteers carried out an “extreme makeover” of their school’s courtyard garden. In addition to pulling weeds, trimming bushes, and transplanting several strawberry plants, the students also planted several winter plants including lettuce and cabbage. The students are now looking forward to a delicious salad snack once the crop is ready to harvest. In the spring the students will be planting another round of fruits and vegetables.
Joy Drumm, Amy Mackiewicz, Beth Bailey and her family, Maxine Mazur, Patricia Brandt and Mary Parsons joined together to clean up the garden that was installed last year, and readied it for winter plants.Students cleaned up the Kempsville Elementary courtyard garden to prepare it for the winter months.Three student members of the Kempsville Elementary SCA get their hands dirty to help clean up the school’s courtyard garden.A Kempsville volunteer gives one of the courtyard trees a much needed trimming, providing the plants in the garden boxes with more sunlight.
