To start off the school year, Ocean Lakes High School launched a new program called Fin40, where students met with other students in their grade level and will do so once a month for 40 minutes to attend important academic assemblies appropriate to their grade level.
Freshmen, in particular, will use the Fin40 block to meet with student peer mentors who will serve as guides to members of the Class of 2019. The peer mentor program, called D2D, which stands for “Dolphin 2 Dolphin,” is coordinated by math teacher Shaylee Laton, and Fin40 is coordinated by English teacher Tasha Hurst, who designed a logo for the program.
Juniors Kaleigh Hudson and Nick Low and senior Grace Taylor conducted a “Draft” and welcomed their peer mentees into their respective teams Friday, Sept. 11, during their second Fin40 session of the year.
