As one of 13 Student Support Specialists across the division, Dayla Brown knows all too well the challenges facing today’s students. Each day, she assists students who are transitioning from alternative education programs to their home schools. She works with students to see improvements in a host of measures, including attendance, academic performance, classroom behavior and receiving positive feedback from parents and staff. See how her work is making a huge difference in the lives of VBCPS students.
I was fortunate enough in 2006 to staff Dayla Brown at Salem HS. She immediately demonstrated her true love for all children, a commitment to helping at-risk students find their path to success, and her support to all staff. Dayla was and is now a role model to the students she serves and the staff with whom she works.
I was privileged to work with Dayla Brown at Salem Middle. She is an extraordinary human being and an amazing advocate for kids. Thank you, Dayla, for your service, commitment, and love.
I absolutely love working with Dayla! For several years, she has carried some of my students on her case load. When she and I work together on behalf of those students, our partnership creates a safe space for students to grow, and adds a powerful level of accountability for them. Her intervention helps students break down walls that have shut them down emotionally and have often negatively impacted their learning. With her help, we’ve seen students grow, one step at a time, toward their learning potential and toward joyfulness in their learning experience.
