The Environmental Protection Agency, according to the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of October 1986, requires all school facilities to have an inspection for asbestos-containing building materials and to have a detailed management plan identifying these materials.

AHERA Management Plans are available in each school’s main office for review by parents, teachers and employee organizations. If you have questions about your school’s management plan, discuss them with your principal or call the industrial hygienist in the Office of Environmental Resources at (757) 263-2500.
