Heather Piccoli, a art teacher at Thalia Elementary, is encouraging a new type of art appreciation.
Piccoli is teaching her students to look at art with “new eyes”. Students are learning how art has changed over time and how important artists throughout history have shaped the way people practice art today.
Students are learning about new artists throughout the school year. For example, the third-grade students at the school are creating a Vincent Van Gogh pumpkin patch based off his painting the Starry Night.
Different students in class are given the opportunity to role play and dress up as the feature artist while giving interesting facts about a work of art or the artist they are portraying.
