The Fair and Equitable Grading Practices Committee has been working since September 2015 to review current Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) policy, research and best practices for grading. After thoughtful consideration, the committee has developed three preliminary recommendations: 1) Assess academic progress separate from behavior/work habits; 2) Revise the current grading scale; and 3) Make the Fair and Equitable Grading Practices Committee a standing committee to review and monitor division grading practices and make recommendations as needed.
Before any of these recommendations can be finalized and brought before the School Board, the committee is requesting specific feedback from the community. Parents, students and staff members can log on today to the school division’s e-Town Hall to answer questions regarding these recommendations. The e-Town Hall will be open through Sunday, April 3.
In addition, the Fair and Equitable Grading Practices Committee is holding two public forums to discuss these recommendations with attendees. The forums will be held Wednesday, March 16, at Kellam High School, and Tuesday, March 22, at First Colonial High School. Both forums will go from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is requested for each forum.
For more information about these events, call the Department of School Leadership at 263-1088. To give your feedback on these recommendations, visit the school division’s e-Town Hall.
