Fifth-grade students in Alex Cameron’s class at Windsor Woods Elementary School became entrepreneurs and investors this week.
Students were asked to think critically about what they know about each of Virginia’s regions and to create a business proposal for a new company that could only be launched in one of the regions. Then the students listened to the proposals of their table partners and invested “money” in the idea they thought was the best.
Business ventures such as a pizza parlor in which goods were made with local products, a swim obstacle course, a computer renovation and customization company and a Jamaican-themed restaurant that uses local produce in all of its recipes were all pitched. However, the winner was Jacob Kaneiss’s Hillbilly Treat Shop, where he was selling hillbilly ice cream flavors and fudge.
