During a recent medical emergency on a school bus, Princeton Owens, a seventh grader at Princess Anne Middle School, demonstrated remarkable leadership, compassion and calm beyond his years.
As the bus driver contacted dispatch for help, Princeton quietly stepped in to support his peers.
When one student experienced a medical emergency and a younger student tried to help but became overwhelmed, Princeton gently asked, “Do you need help?” After receiving a “yes,” he took over with care, comforting the student by calmly rubbing his shoulder and reassuring him that everything would be OK.
At the same time, Princeton noticed another student across the aisle who was visibly upset and reached out his other hand to comfort them as well.
In a frightening moment, Princeton’s steady presence, kindness, and leadership made a powerful difference, said assistant principal Maureen Allison.
“While many students were attentive and helpful, Princeton’s actions stood out as a true example of empathy and heart,” Allison said.
