Journalism students at Ocean Lakes High School recently presented a staff card to the principal, Dr. Leslie Ittner, for the support she has given to The Current, the school’s student newspaper.
It was the perfect gesture during National Principals Month.
Dr. Ittner wrote the first Stall Seat Journal of the year. The journal is a monthly published article featured in the school’s restrooms. She also conducted a press conference with The Current to “meet the new principal,” sharing aspirations she has for herself and for Ocean Lakes.
Ittner helped the staff purchase cameras, given the new cell phone policy for 2025-2026.
“One of my greatest strengths is care and concern for other people,” Dr. Ittner said to one of the editors on The Current staff during the press conference.
The reporters asked over 20 questions, and each one was answered with a genuine smile.
“I was inspired by my mom, who was a teacher,” Dr. Ittner said. “That’s what I knew. Being a teacher, being an educator.”
