For the Players Foundation recently donated soccer goals to Alanton Elementary School.
A large group of students celebrated the arrival of the goals, with one boy and one girl selected to take the first ceremonial shots on goal. The ceremony concluded with enthusiastic students each getting to take a shot on goal with Old Dominion University goal keepers in the net.
“This is a small but meaningful step in our effort to create more opportunities for kids to play right where they go to school,” said Dr. Christin Golich, founder and executive director of For the Players Foundation. “Our goal is simple, to make it easier for students and families to access safe, consistent play spaces and to strengthen the sense of community around our schools.”
Physical education teacher Wendy DeMartini thanked the foundation for the donation and noted the goals would be used during her soccer unit to aid instruction in the sport. Principal Charlene Garran is excited to have the soccer goals for students to use during play at recess. She even noted that a new soccer club will be formed at the school.
“What an exciting opportunity to bring our entire school community together as we all share a love for sports,” Garran said. “We are so grateful to For the Players for this donation.”
