Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) invites the community to join the division in the celebration of “Purple Up! For Military Kids” day. By wearing purple Friday, April 21, VBCPS students and staff will show their support of the strength, sacrifices and contributions of military-connected children.
Created by Operation: Military Kids (OMK) to honor the children of military families, Purple Up! day features the color that symbolizes the combination of all branches of the military: Army green, Air Force blue, Coast Guard blue, Marine red and Navy blue.
Purple Up! day is one of several activities VBCPS supports during the Month of the Military Child to recognize its strong connections to a military community and the more than 17,500 military-connected students enrolled in the division. The Art of the Military Child exhibit at Lynnhaven Mall will feature VBCPS student artwork throughout April and individual schools are hosting military family and military student appreciation events during the Month of the Military Child.
