Diamond Springs Elementary has started a cheering squad focused on The Leader in Me program. The students in the cheering squad demonstrate leadership by following the Seven Habits they have learned through the Leader in Me program. These Seven Habits are: Be Proactive; Begin with the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win-Win; Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood; Synergize; and, Sharpen the Saw.
Along with leadership, students show school spirit, sportsmanship, and team building through this cheering squad. The squad also does community service projects, volunteers at school events, and sets examples for their peers.
The squad is made up of first grade students and is called the Leading Diamonds. Several teacher assistants at Diamond Springs (Tierra Ford, Jazmine Alphose, Kenisha Matthews, Keyona Edwards, Kenyett Olds, and Beate Moye) are in charge of the program. The program is so supported at the school, staff members fundraise to help the squad pay for uniforms – some even sponsor a cheerleader.
