If you enjoy receiving text messages from the school division, you will need to take action.
Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) uses its Alert Now system to send division families and staff members phone calls, email and text messages about school division news and events, including weather announcements, school closings or other changes to school operations.
This year, VBCPS is using a new system provider for its Alert Now system.
Families will not need to enroll in the system; their contact information is directly carried over based on their child’s registration information. However, for text messaging, families will need to confirm they would like to keep receiving text messages from the division.
Monday, July 2, families will be receiving a text message from the division’s system provider, School Messenger, asking them to confirm they want to keep receiving Alert Now texts. This will be the only message families will receive from School Messenger.
Of course, families can always opt-in to the texts at any time by texting a “Y” or “Yes” to the division’s short code number, 67587.
As a reminder, there are no additional fees for this service – it would subject to all applicable messaging charges depending on your service provider. Standard message and data rates may apply.

I got a message about Green Runs orientation but when you try to go to the website it says the url is invalid. Not sure how well a system like this will work if you need specifics, such a capital letters for websites.
The links to school websites are working via vbschools.com. Try it from there. If not, call the school. They would be able to provide you the information.
Why does the text from VA Beach schools come as a link this year? It is really annoying to have to click the link then, listen to response. Since you call and email too, this added steps with the text feature do not make sense.
Thanks for your time.
I have tried to opt in for the texts several times, but I still do not receive the VBCPS texts. My husband receives them just fine. Is there something else I can do to receive these texts besides texting the 67587 number? Thanks in advance.
You need to provide that phone number to your child’s school. Here is more information about how it works. https://www.vbschools.com/cms/one.aspx?portalId=78094&pageId=284934
