The Green Lions Garden Group at Linkhorn Park Elementary School grows its own organic garden right on Linkhorn’s grounds.
Funded by a grant, the group gets together every Tuesday and has guests from all over the community to talk about growing and buying locally, organic farming, going green, etc. The Green Lions Garden Group also has a worm bin that provides opportunities for students to learn about worms as decomposers as well as providing soil and a place to elimnate food waste in a green way. Any class at Linkhorn can host the bin for up to four weeks.
The Green Lions Garden Group also recently had owner of Fruitive, Bruce Rozeboom, come in and speak to the group about healthy smoothies students can make using locally grown produce. Students were able to try the delicious smoothies.
