The Kellam High School Future Educators Association (FEA) senior members traveled to Minneapolis, Minn. to attend the National FEA Competition and Convention. They competed in the Service Learning Project division.
This group of 10 students organized a relief effort for those affected by the super Typhoon in the Philippines back in the fall. They wrote lesson plans that incorporated not only their service project, but also Virginia SOLs for the internship classrooms where they teach; they raised money and collected supplies and donated them to the relief effort in the Philippines. These Kellam FEA students taught their students about their curriculum, they raised awareness and encouraged empathy in their classes and they made a difference in their community and the world. After presenting their work to onsite judges at the competition, they earned third place out of the more than 30 schools competing in the challenge.
Congratulations!
