Throughout the year, schools created opportunities for students to think beyond the next block, the next month or even the next year. Students were given the chance to talk to leaders from colleges, industries, military branches and other careers to start thinking about what their future could like. - The sky is the limit at Cooke Elementary’s Career Day! Fourth- and fifth-graders learned about a wide variety of careers from 10 professionals including nuclear submarine commander, furniture maker, scuba diver, chef, and veterinarian. Shantwon and Shannon Blankenship, Jake Mott, Colin Murray, and Michael Jayroe get a close look at a military drone. Creighton Holt shared his experiences as a military pilot and a representative for ADS, a supplier of military defense equipment.
- Larkspur Middle School hosted its College and Career Day and had representatives from more than a dozen organizations, including Christopher Newport University, Norfolk State University, SOLitude Lake Management, Virginia Beach Police as well as the Navy.
- Corporate Landing Middle School’s Third Annual College and Career Day was a success. More than 25 vendors packed the house for the day, so that students could have the opportunity to learn about various colleges and careers in the Hampton Roads area. Dionna Lowder and Mariah Kinton worked on their catering skills.
- Larkspur Middle School hosted its College and Career Day and had representatives from more than a dozen organizations, including Christopher Newport University, Norfolk State University, SOLitude Lake Management, Virginia Beach Police as well as the Navy.
- At the Bayside Middle School’s College and Career Fair, students visited representatives from Hampton Roads Youth and Career Center, The Virginian-Pilot, Costal Vision and Medical Transport plus representatives from Tidewater Community College, Norfolk State University (NSU) and William & Mary. Royce Ridley from Norfolk State University tells students about their opportunities if they become students at NSU.

- At the Bayside Middle School’s College and Career Fair, students visited representatives from Hampton Roads Youth and Career Center, The Virginian-Pilot, Costal Vision and Medical Transport plus representatives from Tidewater Community College, Norfolk State University and William & Mary. Miladys Gilmore from Costal Vision shows students the steps in an eye exam and the diseases that can happen.

Students also got to meet with alum David Mitchell, of the Virginia Beach Fire Department, who showed student protective suits for rescue.
