Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) recruitment campaigns encourage educators to “Come Teach at the Beach.”
For 21 high school seniors, the opportunity to teach in Virginia Beach is guaranteed.
The aspiring teachers received Future Teacher Awards from VBCPS this spring and will be offered a contract with the division once they earn a degree through an approved teacher education program and meet all employment requirements.
To qualify for the award, seniors must be enrolled in the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow (VTFT) class offered in high schools or in the Early Childhood Education program at the Technical and Career Education Center. The class and program introduce students to the teaching profession and help prepare them for future studies in education.
Many schools notified award winners with surprise announcements. For instance, VTFT teacher Jenna Free surprised Tallwood’s Future Teacher Award recipient, Olivia Kinert, in the elementary school class where Kinert is completing her VTFT internship.
