Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) will host its annual Academy and Advanced Academic Programs Night Oct. 19, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The event highlights the multiple academic pathways available to students in high school, ranging from legal studies and visual and performing arts to technology and entrepreneurship.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for attendees to visit exhibits and speak with students and staff from the following programs and specialty centers about their specific courses of study:
- Entrepreneurship and Business Academy at Kempsville High School
- Global Studies and World Languages Academy at Tallwood High School
- Governor’s STEM & Technology Academy at Landstown High School
- Health Sciences Academy at Bayside High School
- International Baccalaureate Program at Princess Anne High School
- Legal Studies Academy at First Colonial High School
- Mathematics and Science Academy at Ocean Lakes High School
- Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Salem High School
- Advanced Technology Center
- Green Run Collegiate
- Technical and Career Education Center
Beginning at 6 p.m., each of the eight academies and advanced academic programs will host 30-minute information sessions that repeat throughout the night at 6:35 p.m., 7:10 p.m. and 7:50 p.m.
In addition to this citywide event, each program and center hosts an information night at its school site. A schedule of dates, times and locations is available on vbschools.com.
Admission to academies and advanced academic programs is application-based, and the application will be available online beginning Thursday, Oct. 20. Completed applications must be received by Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.
