Strawbridge Elementary students recently participated in a fun activity called “Tissue Box Tales: A Book Character Contest.”
The National Reading Month activity was designed to promote a love of books, provide an outlet for creativity, and encourage students to make connections with their favorite book characters.
Students were asked to design and decorate tissue boxes to represent characters from books they have read. They expressed their love of reading while showcasing their artistic talents.
The idea was inspired by a social media post shared by another library media specialist from another state.
Students earned a bookmark and an extra library book checkout for participating. The top three winners will receive an additional prize.
Staff will vote on their top three favorite tissue boxes, with winners being announced after Spring Break. Kingston Elementary students participated in a similar activity.
Courtney Phillips is the library media specialist and school media liaison at Strawbridge Elementary.
