Ocean Lakes High School is a top five state finalist for the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest, a nationwide competition to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The winner of the contest earns $20,000 worth of technology for the school.
This is familiar territory for the school division. Last year, Plaza Middle School was named a finalist for the contest and ended up winning the whole competition.
Amy Jo Harrell, Ocean Lakes’s gifted resource teacher, nominated the school for the contest and completed the application. Harrell’s application beat out more than 3,100 other submissions from across the state. For being named a finalist, the school now receives two Galaxy tablets, and Harrell has earned a professional development course of her choosing from PBS TeacherLine.
Awards winners will be announced in early December. For more information about the contest, visit www.samsung.com/solve.
