Plaza Middle School was named the Virginia state winner in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest. Students applied for the contest by sending in project ideas that used Science, Technology, Engineer and Math (STEM) objectives to try and solve an issue in their community.
According to a Samsung press release, the state winners were chosen from more than 2,300 applicants. Additionally, for being named a state winner, Plaza students will continue to the national competition and have to submit a short video documenting their project. Samsung will provide Plaza with $20,000 worth of technology, Samsung products and Adobe software to complete the next stage of competition.
Best of luck, Plaza!
Plaza MS is great because the administration is always incredibly supportive of projects that extend beyond the classroom. Students will be travelling to the National Institute of Aerospace in Hampton, VA on Saturday, January 11 to construct and field test 4 Sea Perch submersibles. Our principal, Mr.Burnsworth, linked us up with the contact at NIA, which was a hole-in-one with regards to taking this project even further. The students are excited to get working on the project in earnest after break and we are gunning to make the final 15.
This is fabulous, congratulations to all of you! Great job.
