April Harmon, Kempsville High School’s Guidance Department Chair, was recently selected as The 2014 Virginia Counselors Association (VCA) Guidance Counselor of the Year.
The VCA is a professional organization dedicated to the goal of meeting the needs of Virginia counselors in a variety of work setting. According to the VCA, the Counselor of the Year award was established in 1981 in order to give recognition to an outstanding member of VCA who spends the majority of his/her professional time in counseling and guidance.
Specifically, to earn the award, Harmon had to make a significant contribution to the school, showcase outstanding guidance, counselor and/or personnel services as well exhibit leadership in the school’s community.
