The Leading Diamond Cheerleaders had plenty to cheer about Jan. 19. After Diamond Springs Elementary School (DSES) principal Gloria Coston welcomed students, staff, parents and special guests to the all-school assembly, the smiling squad of first-graders took to the stage with this cheer:
With Imagine Learning…we are learning
The skills we need…to succeed.
We read and write…with all our might.
Never give up…fight, fight, fight!
Students and staff were celebrating the school’s recognition by Imagine Learning Corporation as a 2014-15 Imagine Nation Super School. Representative Sam Eyre presented the school with a banner and plaque to commemorate its “super” status.
Imagine Learning’s website explains that Super Schools are “nominated by their area partnership managers and educational support consultants for exceptional enthusiasm, amazing Imagine Learning innovations, or just plain good citizenship.”
First-graders Anthony Allen, Kateleen Fojas, Monica Brooks and Ashmi Arias took turns sharing their Imagine Learning experiences with the audience.
“I learn so much about reading. It helps me learn new words so I can make really cool stories to show my teacher,” said Allen of the Imagine Learning software.
“It teaches me how to read difficult words. It even tells me what each word means,” said Fojas. “I am reading chapter books now, and it is so much fun.”
“I like the music and songs. It is a blast,” Brooks told the audience. “It means a lot to me because it helps me to be a better reader.”
“Even teachers think it’s great! You can do it at home, too,” said Arias. “It has songs, games, tests and so much more! I learned my ‘be’ verbs from it.”
Coston used the assembly to also recognize various DSES teachers for their milestone service to the school division – giving the Leading Diamond Cheerleaders another reason to celebrate.
Teachers are the best.
They help us with our tests.
When problems arise,
They help us synergize,
And keep our eyes on the prize.
