Congratulations to Tina Alsop, who received the Virginia State Reading Association’s (VSRA) James D. Mullins Leadership Award at its annual conference held in Norfolk, March 3-5. Alsop is the Title I coordinator in the Department of Teaching and Learning.
The James D. Mullins Leadership Award was established in 1994 to recognize administrators who show exceptional support of reading. According to the VSRA, an award nominee must be “a strong advocate for reading, teachers and children; has a vision for a school or school system; consistently makes decisions based on a belief system; is creative in finding resources to support reading program and is a strong supporter of reading and/or VSRA or other reading-oriented organizations or groups.”
The Virginia Beach Reading Council will also recognize Alsop’s state honor at its spring banquet May 9.
