FACT: All middle and high schools have uniformed School Resource Officers (SROs) who are sworn members of the police department.
There is a SRO on-site at each of the division’s middle and high schools. As part of their assignment, the SROs are also available to respond to their school’s feeder elementary schools, if necessary.
SROs provide a police presence within the school and an extra level of security for students, staff and visitors. However, they also work each day to help cultivate and build positive relationships with students, which research has proven to be the most successful method for preventing school crime.
Additionally, SROs in the secondary level provide classroom instruction on the criminal justice system and law enforcement.
