The Windsor Woods Elementary School Wildcats may need to change their school mascot to the Wizards — math wizards that is!
Students in kindergarten through the fifth-grade recently put their math skills to the test in an international competition to celebrate World Math Day 2013. Sonya Benshoff, fourth-grade teacher and self-proclaimed “math nerd,” spearheaded, organized and facilitated the event for the fifth year in a row.
While students were facing math competition from around the world, several evening activities also were offered to parents to demonstrate ways to help children increase their math skills.
As a school, the Wildcats answered 57,178 questions during the 48-hour event. The number of questions answered worldwide totaled 292,354,618. To sum it up, it was a great day in Wildcat country!
