Virginia Beach City Public Schools thanked its more than 550 custodial staff members at a recent luncheon at Old Donation School.
They filled the auditorium to receive words of encouragement and appreciation from their supervisors, including Sammy Nix, director of custodial and distribution services.
“We are really really appreciative of everything you do,” Nix said before shaking the hands of everyone in attendance. “There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t appreciate you.”
Custodial staff members received a backpack with a thermos, beach towel and umbrella, then went into the cafeteria for a festive lunch. Many posed for photos with their teammates, while others said hello to employees at schools where they once worked. Conversation and laughter filled the room, along with the satisfaction of a job well done for another school year.
