Before you start singing “School’s out for summer!” remember that Summer School 2013 is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 26. Secondary students planning to take courses during the summer must register at the middle and high school summer sites Tuesday, June 18 between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., or Wednesday, June 19 between 8 a.m. and noon.
Please note that all secondary students must provide their student identification number at the time of registration and bring their schedule or report card from the third grading period illustrating the preprinted student ID number. Tuition must be paid in full at the time of registration.
More information regarding summer school 2013 including the program guides and the session schedules is available on vbschools.com.
If your child has to go to summer school for the one week class for SOL what do you need to bring to registration and is there a fee.
There is no fee for the SOL fast track one week tutoring/retesting program. Each site has a list of the students that were reccomended to take the coures so they should have your child’s name on the list at his/her registration site.
my son is a rising 10th grader at Landstown High School. I need to sign him up for Algebra 1 part 2, he did not fail this course. He failed Alg. 1 part 1. What do I need to bring with me to register him? Can I only register him at Salem High School? I believe that is his cluster location. Please let me know asap. I know the lines are long and I don’t want to come unprepared.
Ms. Mulrooney,
You must register your son at his designated summer school site, so yes Salem. As for what to bring, am I correct that you are trying to sign your son up for Algebra 1 part 2?
you are correct. Algebra 1 part 2.
Ok, so I am assuming then that he failed and has retaken Algebra 1 part 1 and will be taking Algebra 1 part 2 for the first time. Secondary students must provide their student identification number at the time of registration. Students should bring their schedule or report card (from the third grading period) that shows the preprinted student ID number. When they pull his information it should show that he is able to register for the second part of the course which runs during the second session July 22-August 9.
What if I don’t have a copy of his third quarter report card. I could contact the school , but don’ see them acting in time to give me a copy. Can I print off his information from parent portal?
Yes the printout from parent portal would be acceptable.
Who do we make the check payable to? Thank you!
All checks should be made payable to the Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
What forms of payment are acceptable? Cash, Check, Credit Card? Thank you!
Cash, checks, credit card (VISA and/or MasterCard), and money order may be used to pay tuition. The wait time for registrants paying with a credit card will be longer than other payment methods.
I am making out a check for my summer school registration, who do I make the check payable to?
All checks should be made payable to the Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
Does a parent have to be with the student to register??? I have to work and won’t be able to make the times you have for registration. Thank you!
A parent/legal guardian must sign the forms for registration. That being said, if you have a family member (grandmother, aunt, etc.) that can attend registration with your student they can assist if they have a letter from you with their signature allowing them to do so. Hope that helps!
Will my child be able to register herself or will a parent have to be present ?
Also if she passed semester one she will only have to go to part 2 or 200 dollars ?
A parent/guardian must be present at registration because the forms have specific areas for signatures from legal guardians/parents. In regards to your second question, if you are asking about Algebra 1 part 1 and part 2, if you daughter passed part 1 then she can register for part 2 which which runs during the second session July 22-August 9.
For the part about “bring their schedule or report card from the third grading period illustrating the preprinted student ID number” does this mean their schedule from the past year? Will a printout from the Parent Portal web site be sufficient?
Yes sir, a printout from parent portal with the student ID number on it would be sufficient.
My daughter failed Algebra II and did not get to graduate. All the school gave me was a registration form for summer school and letter statring that she has to take Algebra II Repeat , is that enough inforamtion to bring with me? Also, if she passes will ther be a graduation for those who are seniors and coulldnt walk with there class?
The letter, the form, and her student identifcation number (can be found on her last report card, schedule, or printed from Parent Portal) along with the form of payment will be sufficient to register for summer school. There are summer school graduation ceremonies, your daughter should speak with the guidance department at the summer school site to get more information on the ceremony.
My daughter has to work tonight until 7:30. Can I register her without her being present?
The student does not have to be present for registration as long as the parent/guardian is there and has the student identification number, which can be found on the last schedule, third quarter report card or printed out from Parent Portal.
Thank you!
None of my daughter grade is under C. Can she still enroll for the Summer school.
If your daughter is in high school and is seeking to take summer school courses for credits to get ahead, then yes. Middle school summer school, however, is primarily for remediation.
I just found out that my child failed English 9.. Is it too late to register for summer school?
You may still visit the summer school site and request to register your child, however, registration will be based on available room in the course.
