Parents/legal guardians interested in learning more about transition planning for students with disabilities should consider attending the Virginia Beach Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) meeting Monday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Princess Anne High School.
SEAC is hosting a transition planning workshop in conjunction with its monthly meeting. It will feature a presentation on transition services and community resources available to assist students with disabilities and their families. Presenters will include staff from the Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ (VBCPS) Office of Programs for Exceptional Children and the Parent Support and Information Center.
Transition planning for students with disabilities assists with the development of appropriate postsecondary goals in the areas of employment, education/training and independent living based on the student’s preferences, interests and abilities. Virginia Department of Education regulations require transition planning for students with disabilities to begin no later than a student’s 14th birthday.
For more information about the upcoming transition planning workshop, please contact Eileen Ouellette in the VBCPS Parent Support and Information Center at (757) 263-2066.
