Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) invites its students, staff and community members to join school divisions across Virginia in celebrating Purple Up! For Military Kids Day Friday, April 13. The event is held in conjunction with the Month of the Military Child, recognized nationwide each April.
By wearing purple, individuals will show their support for the strength, sacrifices and contributions of military-connected children. The color purple symbolizes the combination of all branches of the military: Army green, Air Force blue, Coast Guard blue, Marine red and Navy blue.
In addition to wearing purple April 13, the community is encouraged to visit the Art of Being a Military Child exhibit at Lynnhaven Mall through April 29 to view artwork by VBCPS students that celebrates the military community and recognizes the service and sacrifices of service members and their families. VBCPS and its individual schools also are hosting military family and military student appreciation events throughout the month.
