Cox, Princess Anne and Kellam high schools will again host the annual 5K Love Run/Walk on Saturday, Feb. 13, at Thalia Elementary School to benefit the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD).
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The cost of the race is $15, donated directly to CHKD.
“Last year we raised $8,500 and I would like to always increase the amount of money we raise each year. I’m hoping that this year we can raise $10,000,” SCA and Love Run sponsor Sabrina Shumate said.
The race is not only limited to runners and walkers; participants may run, walk, bike, skate or scooter their way across the finish line.
Awards will be handed out for race placements, best costume, most spirited runner/walker, best mode of transportation and many others.
“Last year I participated in the Love Run and it was fun; everyone was dressed for Valentine’s Day, etc. So, I decided to do it again this year,” Cox High School Senior Alexis Smith said. “Everyone came together to support a good cause and it was fun at the same time.”
