The school division’s Office of School Social Work Services and the nonprofit organization AidNow are partnering for a sixth year to host Jump Start, a back-to-school event that supports the division’s homeless student population. Students attending the event will receive clothing, backpacks, school supplies, food and toiletries as well as have access to free haircuts and various screenings.
Students registered in Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) who have been identified as homeless have been invited to the event, and local businesses, community agencies, organizations and volunteers donate their time and resources to make the event possible.
Jump Start will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Corporate Landing Middle School. Volunteers will set up for the event Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Individuals or organizations interested in volunteering or donating clothing may visit AidNow’s Jump Start webpage at www.aidnow.org/jump-start.html or contact the school division’s Office of School Social Work Services at 757-263-2300.
