Did you know that there are children right here in Virginia Beach who do not have enough to eat? This is especially the case over the weekend when children cannot take advantage of available school breakfasts and lunches.
But you can help make a difference! On Jan. 31, from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. volunteers will be taking on the challenge of filling VBCPS school buses with food items to Fill a Beach Bag and Feed a Beach Child. Food drive locations will be Near Bravo! Cucina Italiana at Town Center and near Kohl’s at Landstown Commons Shopping Center. You can drop off food items at either location to help meet the challenge!
Not sure what to bring? Each Beach Bag contains:
-
Two individual cereal boxes
-
Two 8 oz. shelf stable milk containers
-
Two shelf stable main courses (Ravioli, beef stew, macaroni and cheese, etc.)
-
Two 4 oz.or larger fruit cups and/or 100% juice boxes
-
Two snack items (Cereal bars, granola bars, pretzels, crackers, etc.)
The VBCPS Beach Bags program currently serves hundreds of students from elementary, middle and high schools throughout the division. Food is packed by volunteers and distributed to participating schools. The Beach Bags are packed in brown paper (or plastic) bags and placed in student backpacks at the end of the day.
