Nearly 800 Beach residents, including fifth graders, their parents, teachers and supporters, participated in Virginia Beach Public Library’s 5th Annual Battle of the Books competition.
Teams, most with five fifth graders and an adult manager, prepared for the Jeopardy-style game show by reading 10 preselected books. The teams faced off at seven Virginia Beach public libraries, answering questions based on the reading.
Eight winning teams from across the city recently met at Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library to compete for first place.
The “Ten Books, One Boy” team from Princess Anne Elementary emerged victorious. The school received a trophy to display, and each member of “Ten Books One Boy” received a medal.
All participants in the finals were recognized with certificates and bookstore gift cards. Funded by The Friends of the Virginia Beach Public Library, the program is a successful partnership between Virginia Beach Public Library and Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
