Open up an edition of the new Great Neck Life Magazine, and you just might find some familiar names and faces.
The magazine, which highlights the people and events of the Great Neck community, now features staff and students at Cox High School. Members of the school’s newspaper and yearbook staffs, including their advisers, have written articles for the publication, and are often features in the magazine itself.
Thanks to a partnership built between Cox English/Journalism teacher and Newspaper Adviser Erin Tonelson and Great Neck Life Magazine’s Editor-In-Chief Amy Matzke-Fawcet, the school has become a fixture in the magazine’s pages.
For example, in November, Cox senior Journalism students Haley Bowler, Savanna Gault, and Kate Dodson, earned a published by-line for their article, Instagratification, featuring a new art exhibit that uses photos from cell phone applications. You can read their work here.
In January, Cox High School biology teacher Joe Gentry and his fight with cancer was the cover story.
And, each month, Tonelson writes a column to showcase the vast achievements within the school’s student body – from athletic and academic to community service and student leadership.
Two similar publications, Chic’s Beach Life and Red Mill Life magazines, are launched and looking to incorporate students and staff in a similar fashion.
Yay Erin & Cox Falcons!
