Each month, Superintendent Aaron Spence highlights one Compass Keeper for a special video edition of the Compass Keepers Club. The end product is then presented to the School Board during the Superintendent’s Report given at the second School Board Meeting of the month.
Not many would step out of a collegiate lecture hall into an elementary classroom, but that is exactly what Dr. James Marken did. Three years ago, Marken made the change, leaving his work at Old Dominion University to teach at Tallwood Elementary School. Now a second-grade teacher at Malibu Elementary, check out his story below and see why he says working with his children gives him a reason to get out of bed each morning.
Congratulations!!!!! I was thrilled to see you named as a Compass Keeper. Your interview video is excellent, and I feel the editors did a great job capturing your spirit and philosophy. Now let’s see if you can beat the 1st-grade teachers, too!!
😀
Dr. Marken I am so proud of the accomplishments you’ve made. You were a pleasure to work with on first grade at Tallwood. I am happy that you are just as pleased with your new teaching position. Continue to be the inspiration that all of our students need!
