November marks Military Family Appreciation Month. Throughout the month, VBCPS honors the commitment and sacrifices made by the families of our service member neighbors. More than 22,000 students, 30 percent of our student population, are military connected.
On average, a military connected child may move six to nine times from kindergarten to graduation. That’s why VBCPS employs specially trained military-connected school counselors who can speak directly to these needs.
These counselors have trained more than 500 staff members who in turn, have raised awareness and made changes in their schools. Meet Amanda Yoder and Megan Graman, two counselors who serve the children of those who serve us all.
Megan Graman has enriched the lives of many military connected students and their families at Hermitage Elementary school through deployment groups and assistance with transitioning to their new school. She is multi-faceted and serves Middle School and High School students as well. We are very fortunate to have her in VBCPS!
Appreciate all you do; keep up your standout work!
I had the opportunity to work with Amanda and Megan. They are outstanding school counselors and this clip only captures a small amount of their skills, talents and abilities. They are a great asset to the field and to the division.
Love what you do “SHIPMATE”
