It’s a party of intergalactic proportions.
This Friday, March 22, from 5-11 p.m., staff from the VBCPS Planetarium will help host Virginia Beach’s Mt. Trashmore Star Party V, at Mt. Trashmore Park.
Guests can come out and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while listening to the sounds of space themed music as they check out this annual sharing of the skies.
Targets for the evening will be the planet Jupiter and the four Galilean moons, a waxing gibbous moon, a variety of other celestial jewels and the recently visible comet, Panstarrs. The comet will only be visible for a short time immediately after sunset, so guests are encouraged to arrive early to catch this rare inner solar system visitor.
In addition, staff and volunteers will be on hand to help identify constellations such as Ursa Major, Orion, Leo, Canis Major, Taurus and many others. Plus, as an added treat, members of The Tidewater Alliance Star Wars Fanforce and the Mandalorian Mercs Costuming Club will be out in full star wars attire.
The event is weather permitting.
