Students are stakeholders in our environmental future. And, as a part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools fourth grade curriculum problem based learning, students discuss the “urban tree canopy.”
Fourth-grade students at North Landing Elementary had the opportunity to share their ideas about how to increase Virginia Beach’s tree canopy, a citywide initiative to increase the canopy by 2040.
Symsi Houser and Laurie Yates, from the City of Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation, visited North Landing Elementary and shared information about the importance of our tree canopy and asked students to share their ideas about how to increase the tree population in our city.
Students took a learning walk around the school, with Houser and Yates, to identify the trees that surround their school and to have a better understanding of how our trees impact our lives.
