Mentors, parents and teachers joined the C-Straight students at Bayside Middle in friendly games of kickball, dodge ball and water balloon toss at an end-of-year celebration and dinner. Ninth-graders along with Bayside High School AVID students coordinated the activities.Robert Lanz, sponsor of the C-Straight group, also gave students summer homework and challenged them to stay connected to school. Over the summer students are tasked with visiting the Youth Career Center at Pembroke Mall, creating a resume, completing a career interest inventory, and communicating via email with Lanz upon completion.
In the C-Straight program, Lanz pairs students with mentor from the school or community and also organizes learning events with a focus on college, careers, and community engagement. Ninth-graders along with Bayside High School AVID students coordinated the activities.
Best mentoring program ever! My son thoroughly enjoyed being a part of such an exciting program. His mentor was amazing, a perfect match for my son. Mr. Lanz is phenomenal!
I think it’s a great incentive for students. Often students may feel as if a “C” is not enough to get recognize for doing thier best. Great job!
