Welcome to The Core, the newest addition to Virginia Beach Schools. Here, you will find some of the many reasons Virginia Beach is not only one of best school divisions in Virginia, but in the nation.

So, what exactly is it?

The Core is the sister blog to Apple-A-Day, the bimonthly newsletter sent to the home of every student in Virginia Beach. While Apple-A-Day will still be published and feature the big news coming from the division, The Core has the ability to deliver the latest information, stories and pictures from our schools as well as give a more in-depth look into the day-to-day work of our students, partners, volunteers and staff.

Here’s a look at what you can expect to see when you visit The Core:

The Hall Monitor – Pictures and stories straight from the schools highlighting some of the excellent, innovative or just plain entertaining activities going on in the hallways and classrooms of our division.

A Closer Look – In this category, you will find deeper examinations of the division’s strategic plan, new curriculum or assessments being rolled out or big decisions made by the School Board. These features will help you understand what these changes and objectives mean to you in the classroom.  

Compass Keepers Club – The members of the Compass Keepers club are students, staff and community partners who daily help VBCPS get closer to reaching the goals set the division’s five year strategic plan, Compass to 2015.

Community Connections – Find out how our mentors, volunteers and Partners In Education make a difference in the lives and work of our students, teachers and staff. These stories will not only showcase the efforts of all who help our division, but will also feature ways you too can get involved.
