Students across Virginia Beach City Public Schools celebrated Black History Month in February. Throughout the division, children took part in special assemblies, had new reading material and were part of classroom activities that showcased and honored the contributions of African Americans.
For example, students in Demetria Cofield’s second grade class at Holland Elementary School researched famous African Americans and displayed their findings on paper bag vests.
The history of African-Americans is an integral part of the division’s curriculum and is commemorated throughout VBCPS. Check out some of the other ways VBCPS celebrated Black History Month this February on the division’s Facebook page.
